Libros Walden, No Retorno, and Espacio Vacío present Despierta unos instantes de tu oscura noche, a beautiful physical object consisting of a transparent green vinyl record with music by Caliza and a 98-page color photobook by Raquel Bravo, where both artists reinterpret the legendary 1920 film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

Over 100 years later, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari remains one of the most iconic and influential films in cinema history. As a silent film, it offers endless possibilities for reinterpretation and updating through its soundtrack. Based on this premise, Caliza proposes a completely new perspective on the film with an original ambient and electronic soundtrack.

Caliza’s music for this work stands out for its synthesizer sounds, samples, distorted vocals, and field recordings that blur the lines between music and sound effects.

The project is completed by a photobook created by Raquel Bravo, combining images from the film with her own personal archive.

Despierta unos instantes de tu oscura noche is released in a special format—a folder designed by Julián Cruz—which contains both the vinyl record and the book, creating a unique object in a limited edition of 300 copies.

Caliza is a Madrid-based singer, composer, and producer who has spent nearly a decade carving out her own path through singularity and independence, with three electronic pop albums to her name. Her latest album, El descenso (2021), tackles the climate crisis and the will to survive in a world on the brink of collapse. She has shared the stage with artists like Crash Course in Science, Molly Nilsson, and Cate Le Bon, and has performed at venues like CA2M, the Museo Geominero in Madrid, and MUSAC in León, as well as in self-managed spaces throughout Spain, France, and Slovenia.

Raquel Bravo is a Madrid-based photographer and professor, whose work explores memory as an opportunity for collective negotiation through personal narratives. She uses the archive as a problematic anchor point to revisit the present. In 2021, her project Mato Grosso won the Fotolibro <40 Award, was published by Fuego Books, and became a finalist for the Felifa International Prize and the Best Book Award at Les Rencontres de la Photographie d'Arles in 2022. She teaches film and photography at the Open University of Catalonia and the European Institute of Design, LENS, and CIEE, and is a tutor for the Fuego Scholarship.
