"El pez muere por la boca" reflects on the resilience and resistance of coastal communities in Colombia, amidst the contexts of drug trafficking and fishing. The shoreline connects the sea (or river) with the continent (or mainland), where amphibious communities live with deep traditions of music, dance, hairdressing, games, and celebrations. These communities also engage in agriculture, gastronomy, tourism, whale watching, and nature observation. However, this peace is permeated by the presence of paramilitary forces, violence, and drug trafficking.

"El pez muere por la boca" is a participatory and interventionist project where the community is involved in creating the images. The contrasts between traditions (peaceful states or states of peace) and armed pressure (paramilitary and drug trafficking groups) are expressed through different actions, landscapes, bodies, and objects. Daily life intertwines with the construction of the scenes. Here, the performative act blends with the ebb and flow of reality, like a song to the undefined boundary between sea and land.

About — RAYA EDITORIAL is especially focused on thinking, editing, designing, and publishing photobooks. "A photobook is read like a novel, observed like a movie," says Horacio Fernández. It is in the turning of the pages that the photos carry the weight of the narrative. The reader is presented with the possibility of reading a story through images and the interplay they can create together: rhythms, pauses, dialogues, opposites, action-reaction, surprises, climaxes, changes in temperature, temporality, color, and emotions. At RAYA EDITORIAL, we are interested in understanding the photobook as a book-object-experience, where the material, texture, forms, and layers create a cohesive whole that responds to the unique universe of each project. This is why the editing and design work is done collectively and with the participation of the authors in collaborative sessions, which we have called EDITING TABLES.
