"Your design was executed only once, but – like the other designs – neither reproduced nor distributed for actual use. The reconstruction was carried out by a young woman currently training as a carpenter. For me, this gesture represents a form of participation and stands in contrast to the criteria of uniqueness and individuality upon which art and its historiography are often based." Eva Engelbert deconstructs and reconstructs historical narratives through abstraction, interweaving, and imitation. The starting point for this book was the Einfacher Hausrat (Simple Household Goods) competition (k.k. Kunstgewerbeschule Vienna, 1916), which aimed to create affordable furniture for impoverished populations. The construction drawings that emerged from this competition serve Engelbert as a source with subversive potential.
