The book Gunkanjima ghosts includes 44 black and white photographs taken at the abandoned coal mining island Hashima outside Nagasaki, which also is known as Gunkanjima due to its resemblance to a battle ship.
The book includes a history of the island, which in 1959 had a population of 5,259 and was abandoned in 1974 when the coal deposits were depleted.
The post-apocalyptic photographs in the book serve as a reminder of the ruin and devastation that awaits us with continued coal and fossil fuel use.
