Infraestructura compiles a series of photographs taken by artist Xabier Salaberria, featuring objects ranging from raw materials to those that, through transformation or composition, become socially constructed objects. Each element is photographed in plan, elevation, and profile views. Their three-dimensional form is constructed through the essentially flat medium of photography. While it may seem like a technical exercise, the project is not about that; instead, the collection generates oscillations between alienation and familiarity, distance and connection. The book mirrors how the artist approaches the exhibition space and how his work can be perceived within it.

This book was conceived as part of the exhibition of the same name, inaugurated on February 2, 2023, at the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, curated by Catalina Lozano and co-designed by Patxi Eguíluz.

Xabier Salaberria lives and works in Donostia. His training is linked to the Arteleku Art Center, where he participated in workshops such as those given by Txomin Badiola, Ángel Bados, and Peio Irazu in 1998. He maintains Arteleku as a place of work and reference over time. His participation in various residency programs has taken him abroad for extended periods, gaining visibility for his work. He has collaborated on projects curated by Peio Agirre, Chus Martínez, Lars Bang Larsen, Catalina Lozano, and Beatriz Herraez, among others. His recent exhibitions include: Frisoa, Tabakalera Donostia/ Museo Oteiza Alzuza (2022-2023), Una exposición sin arquitectura, Museo Artium Gasteiz (2021), r de radio, Carreras Múgica, Bilbao (2020), Ganar Perdiendo, Centro Centro, Madrid (2019), Restos materiales, obstáculos y herramientas, 32nd Bienal de Sao Paulo (2016), Can-ni-faire, Carreras Mugica (2016), and Proceso y Método. (A.T.M.O.T.W.) at the Guggenheim Bilbao (2013).

Catalina Lozano is chief curator of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del País Vasco, Artium Museoa. Her research focuses on minor narratives that challenge hegemonic forms of knowledge. Recent curatorial and editorial projects include Hasta que los cantos broten (Mexican Pavilion, 59th Venice Biennale, co-curated with Mauricio Marcin), A Natural History of Ruins (Pivô, 2021), and Ganar perdiendo (CentroCentro, 2019).
