En huelga contra Dios (On Strike Against God) is a fierce, frenetic, and hilarious novel about a staunch feminist who faces an unexpected situation: she doesn’t like men. Or perhaps she likes a friend. Her sudden lesbianism surprises her, forcing her to reconsider her past, present, and future, while clashing with her activist path. Even during the golden age of the women's liberation movement—the second wave of feminism—the author finds herself repeatedly justifying her feelings, both to others and to herself.

With a wildly original style and a breathless pace that almost compels you to read without stopping, Russ veers into the absurd with tales of vampires and firearms, eliciting laugh-out-loud moments. Now that feminism permeates everything, it’s fascinating to delve into this deeply radical, bold, and insolent manifesto. It offers a glimpse into why activism remains absolutely necessary, even as it’s often interrupted by the realities of life. En huelga contra Dios also explores what it means not to fit in, to hate everyone, and to have imaginary conversations with your dead therapist, your Fairy Godmother, parts of your own body, or even the reader—because how could you possibly tell your friends?

Joanna Russ was a writer, university professor, literary critic, and feminist activist. As an author, she primarily worked in the science fiction genre, winning prestigious awards such as the Hugo and Nebula. Her notable works include Picnic on Paradise (1968), The Chaos Died (1970), The Female Man (1975), and Souls (1983). She was also a pioneer of feminist literary criticism, with essential books like How to Suppress Women’s Writing (1983). In this unique and distinctive work, published in Spanish for the first time, she masterfully blends fiction and essay, offering a caustic, deeply personal autofiction that dissects key debates within feminism and the LGBTQI+ community. Undeniably brilliant.

Innegablemente brillante.
