About — Darren Smith (b. 1984) is an American-born portrait photographer based in Amsterdam, whose work explores themes of self-expression, identity, and belonging. His approach is rooted in interactive portraiture, inviting subjects to step into a space of transformation and storytelling.

Smith’s career began in Perth, Australia, where he collaborated on the Pet Photo Booth project—a community-driven initiative that traveled across the country. This experience shaped his belief in photography as a tool for connection, a philosophy that continues to inform his work today.

Known for his striking studio portraits and compelling visual narratives, Smith has built a career that spans both fine art and commercial photography.
