Our civilization is facing a severe environmental, social, and human crisis. The deterioration is such that it is imperative to address changes that allow us to move towards a life-compatible society. The most urgent issues are adapting the economy to the ecological crisis of a planet that has surpassed its physical limits and prioritizing, in politics, the achievement of a dignified existence for all people.
There are no shortcuts for this path. We must face reality, critically reflect, and create roadmaps that guide us in building a new social contract that involves both people—equal and diverse—and nature. Achieving a transition to a new model requires reaching a consensus on what is not working in our societies, how we got here, and how we can change. It is a complex but inspiring task that also requires transforming the imaginaries through which we understand and act in the world, as well as rethinking the cultural hegemonies that have governed us until now.
Toma de tierra compiles and organizes Yayo Herrero's critical thinking and activates it in this selection of texts, interviews, and conferences where her frank, personal, yet shared voice takes shape in her commitment to placing life at the center.
Yayo Herrero (Madrid, 1965) is a well-known ecofeminist activist. She has served as the national coordinator of Ecologistas en Acción and the director of the FUHEM Foundation. She is also a regular contributor to various media outlets.
