Josef Albers (1888–1976) is one of the 20th century’s most influential abstract painters and teachers. After teaching for a time at the Bauhaus in his native Germany, he emigrated to the United States in 1933. There he taught at Black Mountain College before heading the design department at Yale University. In this volume, Pierre Mabille invites nine artists from both sides of the Atlantic to share their impressions of this major artistic figure, at once teacher, designer, photographer, writer, painter, and color theorist.

About — ER Publishing first launches a book collection titled TRANSATLANTIQUE dedicated to artist writings and their invaluable perspectives. Each book is devoted to an American or European artist active primarily in the second half of the 20th century. All the contributions are from artists living on the other side of the Atlantic. They add their perspectives to the critical discussion on the featured artist’s practice. Each book is edited by a Guest Editor who is an important actor of the art world and has a great knowledge of the featured artist.
